Ladle refining is a process that is conducted before and after removing the impurities from a converter in the steel making process. There are two types of containers for transporting melted iron: a torpedo car located between a furnace and a converter and a ladle moving from a converter to a refining furnace. This process removes some of the impurities from melted iron in a transportation container in advance for the most efficient removal of carbon from the converter furnace (preliminary processing of pig iron), or removes carbon and impurities from the converter and then removes even finer impurities (secondary refining).
POSCO E&C owns a number of patented technologies for ladle refining, and has already exercised its competence in the construction of POSCO's steelworks. |
