Plate plant is used to make plate from the slab produced in the continuous casting process. To reduce the volume of waste, POSCO E&C makes application of both Edger rolling and MAS rolling, and produces thick plates with accelerated cooling and heat-treatment facilities for the manufacture of quality steel.
* MAS rolling process: Mizushima Automatic Plane View Pattern Control System

POSCO E&C is demonstrating the excellence of its technology with the construction of an accelerated cooling facility for the production of wide mills and quality steel products (annual capacity of 2 million tons) at the Gwangyang Steelworks.

<1st Phase>
A project to install facilities for producing plate products from slabs

<2nd Phase>
A project to improve the productivity of accelerated cooling system by installing a side shifter on rolling lines to produce 200,000 tons of the heat treated plate per year by an additional heat treatment furnace.
Project period : Sep. 2006 ~ Aug. 2007
Production capacity : 200,000 tons/year
