Launching its business in 1994, POSCO E&C established the R&D Center in order to secure the world-class technological competitiveness and help advance the domestic E&C industry. In addition, cutting-edge research labs and related facilities were built on the 148,500㎡ tract located in the city of Giheung, Gyeonggi Province, in 1999, opening up a new chapter in terms of high-tech development.

The company draws strength from its expertise in steel plant EPC and sets up a master plan based on the corporate-wide technology development strategy in order to cultivate its core competence in fields where the company has comparative advantage over rivals in other advanced countries. The company, which is the very foundation of new technology, offers the comprehensive technology development plan, while helping combine the research functions of POSLAB, RIST, POSTECH and other POSCO Group units. The efforts are designed to improve research quality and boost technology development efficiency.

Armed with state-of-the-art research labs and accumulated expertise, the company develops core growth-oriented products in steel plants, environmental plants, power plants including civil and construction fields. In particular, it helps enhance technological competitiveness of the domestic construction industry by pushing for projects which are deemed important by the Korean government. As a state-certified organization, the company is playing a role as the “Center of Excellence” which creates new residential culture by responding actively to customers’ requests.
