PAL-XFEL(Pohang Accelerator Laboratory X-ray Free-electron Laser)

The fourth-generation synchrotron radiation accelerator is a two-story research facility with gross floor area of 37,218 m2.

It is located in Jigok-ro, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Synchrotron radiation accelerator is a device to accelerate electrical particles, such as proton, electron, and heavy ion. Enabling to observe unknown phenomena and change of physical properties, it is called a gigantic microscope of the ultra high stratification. With this facility built in Pohang, Korea became the third country in the world following the U.S. and Japan to own the fourth-generation synchrotron radiation accelerator.
