The Sharp Jamsil Reuben

In March 2025, POSCO E&C completed "The Sharp Jamsil Reuben," a premium residential complex that applied South Korea's first vertical extension remodeling for apartment buildings. Located in Songpa-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, Jamsil The Sharp Reuben is a remodeling project of Seongji Apartments, which was originally completed in 1992. Following the start of construction in January 2022 and 38 months of work, the former complex—consisting of 2 underground floors to 15 ground floors and 298 households—was reborn as a new complex with 3 underground floors to 18 ground floors and 327 households.

In particular, this complex holds great significance as the first remodeling project in the country to adopt a three-story vertical extension. Vertical extension is a remodeling method that expands the height of an existing apartment upward, a technology where structural stability and construction precision are paramount. While it allows for an extension of up to two to three floors depending on the building height, it requires two or more rounds of rigorous safety reviews and highly sophisticated reinforcement methods.

For this project, POSCO E&C applied core technologies such as the floating structure method, lowered foundation reinforcement method, foundation expansion (jeung-ta) method, and new-to-old connection composite method to safely distribute the structural load caused by the vertical extension and strengthen the bonding force between the existing and new structures.

By actively adopting smart construction technologies—including 3D scanning for precise measurement of existing buildings, Building Information Modeling (BIM) simulation, and real-time monitoring systems—the company successfully derived optimal demolition plans and secured construction safety.
