The Ulsan–Pohang Expressway (Expressway Route 65) is a national wide-area economic zone leading project with a total length of 53.68 km, consisting of 4 round-trip lanes (23.4 m) and a total project cost of 1.7555 trillion KRW.
Connecting Gulhwa-ri, Beomseo-eup, Ulju-gun, Ulsan to Mundeok-ri, Ocheon-eup, Pohang-si via Gyeongju-si, this expressway features mountain-crossing sections largely composed of tunnels and bridges. POSCO E&C participated in the construction of Section 10, successfully executing a total 4.62 km section that includes the 1,974 m long Yangbuk Tunnel—which crosses beneath National Route 14—and the 55 m Jinjeon 1 Bridge. The opening of the Ulsan–Pohang Expressway has greatly improved accessibility to areas along the route, leading to a significant increase in tourist inflows to the ancient capital of Gyeongju and the East Coast region. Furthermore, it has vastly improved the poor traffic conditions of National Route 7, which serves as the sole overland transport route for steel products between Pohang and Ulsan and passes through the international tourist city of Gyeongju.
